INDIA  DEAF  EXPO2012: An Conference on Innovative Technologies , Sign Language Awareness  and Education  for the prosperity of the  Deaf   were  conducted  from :  29th  to 30th  December  2012 at Mumbai ,

ABOUT  THE  CONFERENCE:     India has about  40  million  DEAF people.   Yet, little is being   done for Education, Employment and Rights of this huge Population.   The   public has little or no information about Deafness.  First expo & conference at Coimbatore 2007 and Second step at New Delhi also  As  a  third step  in  this  effort at Mumbai,  we  are  calling  an International Conference  with  the  main  purpose  of  educating  the  public and  maintaining  the  awareness  about  the  Deaf  Culture.

There has  been  a  major  advance  in  Technology  that  can  help Deaf  people  in Education and Rehabilitation.   The  Deaf  Expo  is also  offering  this  rich  opportunity  for  Educators,  Inventors and  Businessmen  to  showcase  their  products  in  the Exhibitions.   In  addition  to  making  their  product  available  to consumers,  they will  be  above  to  learn  about  other  products and   share  Technology  and  related  information.

We were also provided deaf entertainments 5 min each break after sessions.   Leading  Deaf  artists  and  Performers  will provide  rich  cultural  programs  including  mime, drama, dance, movies  and  others –  all  related  to  deaf  and  Deaf.

Rangasayee, Director, Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai and Mr. Darwin Bose, Program Officer, CBM South Asia Regional Office, Bangalore also Special invitee by Dr.Madan  Vasishta,  Chief Advisor of Indian Sign Language Research Training Centre &   Professor,  Gallaudent University,  USA,    Mr. Alok Kejriwal, Chairman of India Deaf Expo 2012 has welcome address  and Vote of thanks by K. Murali, Director of DEAF LEADERS.

SESSION 1: EMPOWERMENT FOR THE DEAF

Conclude:  India deaf people most upliftment the education.

v “DISABLED PEOPLE’S ORGANISATIONS (DPO) : STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE” – K. Murali, Director of DEAF LEADERS, Coimbatore .

Conclude:  Equal with Hearing with Deaf people and strategies new policy most change for DPO .

v “The Life of a Successfully Deaf businessman. An Example to follow” – Mr. Roshan Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Orjet Intermediates Pvt Ltd, Ahmadabad.

Conclude:  Deaf can doing empowerment of business and example film show on his life successfully.

SESSION 2: DEAF WOMEN RIGHTS

v “Empowering Women for a better tomorrow!”- Mrs. Uma Kapoor , General Secretary- Delhi Foundation of Deaf Women, New Delhi .

Conclude:  Deaf Women should active doing better tomorrow.

v “NAD’S Deaf Women Leadership” – Mrs. Geeta Sharma, National Association of the Deaf, New Delhi.

Conclude: NAD’s Deaf women have successfully as leadership and effect other women must change as empowerment.

                                       

SESSION 3: DEAF EXPLORATION

v “Sign Language Attitudes in Adamorobe” – Dr. Annelies Kusters , Mumbai

Conclude:  Sign Language strength to communication.

v  “ World Traveller – Culture and Sign Language” – Ms. Reita Bansal, United Kingdom.

Conclude:  Respects mother language of Sign Language and Culture in world.

SESSION 4: DEVELOPMENT FOR THE DEAF  

v “Independent Living for persons with Deaf- Blindness: An Account of life experience”  – Mr. Zamir Dhole, Sense International ( India) 

           Conclude:  Deaf – Blindness‘s skill to independent living. 

v Creating newer and more employment opportunities for Deaf in Corporate India” – Mrs. Radhika Agarwal, V- Shesh, Mumbai

Conclude:   Deaf people more than 300 approx to joined MNC and private  bank  in India successfully.

SESSION 5: DEAF EDUCATION

v “The Advantages of Bilingualism for the Deaf Child”  – Dr. Gaurav Mathur , Gallaudet University, Washingtion DC, USA

        

v “Sign Language and Bilingualism in Deaf Education” –Dr.  Dilip Deshmukh, Deaf Foundation, Ichalkaranji, India .

SESSION 6: SIGN LANGUAGE 

v “Building Indian Sign Language Corpus” – Mr. Amaresh Gopalakrishnan

v The relationship between a Sign Language Interpreter and a Deaf Individual – Ms. V.N. Renuka, Social Entrepreneur, Sign Language Interpreter/ Profesional Research Scholar, Coimbatore

 SESSION 7:  TECHNOLOGY FOR THE DEAF

v “Captioning & ISL as Accessibility tools of Universal Design in Advertisement and its effect on Hearing and Deaf persons”  – Dr. P.J. Mathew Martin,  Ext. Ser. Asst. ( Mass Media), Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Impaired,  Mumbai

v “E-learning for the Deaf” – Mr. Rajesh Ketkar,  Assistant Director of Ishara Foundation , Vadodara.

B)    Entertainment the follow

v Special two events of Mr. John Maucere , as Actor  from USA to comedy show about Deaf Culture and equal with hearing people .

v Mr. Bilan Khan as Special Actor on Air India welcome and Chappell Carlin also Ghost dramas were very greatest.

v Deaf Entertainment team were movie, drama & dance show about making positive for Deaf people.

C)    Exhibition ( Total 21 stalls)

v 4 Corporate Stalls of Gallaudet University,  Washington, DC, USA, for Enrollment and University for the Deaf,    India Sign Language Research & Training Centre, New Delhi for sign language book materials , Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai for awareness materials and Information on services for the Deaf  & Maharashtra Tourism DC, Government of Maharashtra , Mumbai for information on tourism

v Deaf Organizations 3 stalls and deaf individual Business 14 stalls for deaf rights, spiritual movies on DVD, Fine arts, Chocolate & Jewellery also etc.
