I have two very good news to reveal!
‘Terra Signing Academy’ – abbreviated as ‘TSA’ delivered two British Sign Language (BSL) Taster Sessions at Kingston University. This initiative came about as a support to campaign to introduce FREE BSL classes to the Kingston University students
The Taster sessions took place on the 19th and the 20th March 2013. The students loved it!They said it is useful for them to learn and can be of benefit to know basic BSL communication for their future progression. The hope to graduate in a wide variety of progressions such as doctors, physicians, chemists, pharmacists and social workers. Basic BSL will break barriers in communication with Deaf.
Kingston University is about to incorporate BSL level 1 and level 2 classes in study program, which would be FREE to the students. This is an amazing initiative and we are delighted to support this brilliant idea. TSA and Terra Group wishes to cultivate Deaf inclusion and promotion of Deaf culture, knowledge and raise Deaf Awareness.
To promote this idea, we were at Kingston University for two days delivering BSL classes to over 80 students eager to start formal BSL education ASAP.
After each session, we were delighted to receive very positive feedback. We were even told to come back as the turn out was larger than we could handle in 2 days.
We are excited at this prospect and we are very proud with our success and the success of Kingston University. We shall be looking forward to commencement of our most awarding project.
We shall keep you updated with the news!
Speak soon again 🙂
And below is the feedback we received:
Just to say a huge thank you for your wonderful sessions this week. Everyone is so excited about doing a full course and I can’t wait to have you back as soon as we can for a full course!
We’re holding a Disability Awareness Day on April 30th with loads of different activities (stalls, drop ins, a film screening, a talk) and I’d love to invite TERRA back to do a final taster session before the end of term if you’d be interested. You were such a hit I think the uptake would be great and again help promote the full courses when we start them. Don’t feel you have to – you’ve done so much already – but if you’d like to we would be more than happy to have you back!
